A Fast-Blast Intro to Writing Short Stories and Novels – Part 1
September 23 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
An Emrys Writing Room with Carol Baldwin
Have you fantasized of writing a short story or novel but have been too afraid to take that dream out of the box and start working on it? Then this five hour hands-on creative writing workshop is for you. Carol Baldwin will introduce you to some basic writing tools that every writer needs and then introduce you to the building blocks of fiction: Character, Setting, and Conflict. Carol will demonstrate how each element interconnects with the other.
A 45-minute break for lunch is included. Bring a notebook, pen and the desire to have fun and experiment. You’ll leave with more story ideas than you’ll know what to do with and some “homework” assignments to keep your creative juices flowing.
How-to topics will include:
— Build a set of writing tools.
— Create an authentic character and determining what she or he wants.
— Develop a sensory setting and learn how to set your story’s mood.
— Consider the wide variety of conflicts your character might encounter.
